About VIRA
VIRA© is the Event Management Division of H51 Software. "VIRA" stands for 'Virtual Race Assstant' and is a combination web-service/on-site results processing utility for fitness events, mountain bike races, cross-country running, and nordic ski events. We target small- to medium-sized events and do NOT use RFID technology. We believe that there are many events that can be professionally and effectively timed without chip technology and the corresponding cost.
VIRA© processes results on site, posts results online, and is willing to customize our services to accomodate the needs of our customers. Feel free to contact us directly for a more detailed explanation of our services and pricing.
Our System: Fitness Events
- We provide each event we time with their own web site. They may use this site as the internet home of their event or merely as an administrative tool to enter pre-registered runners and ensure that the event specifics are correct (age groups, awards, race times, location, etc)
- We provide all equipment needed to generate accurate results. This includes watches, computers, printers, a tent, etc.
- We provide our own power and totally control the finish line. Nothing for you to do there. All we require is that there is room next to the finish line for the tent.
- We handle all race day data input. For large events I may ask for assistance from one of your volunteers.
- We post unofficial results as the race progresses, assuming things are functioning smoothly.
- We provide awards-ready results whenever you are ready.
- Viewable, printable, and downloadable results are posted online within an hour of returning home and remain there indefinitely.
- All participants that provide a valid email address (not required) will receive their results by email within 24 hours.
- NOTE: We do NOTHING with the race course at all. Our focus is on ensuring that all participants who cross the finish line receive an accurate time and place.
Our System: Cross-Country/School-based Nordic Ski Meets
- We provide all equipment needed to generate accurate results. This includes watches, computers, printers, a tent, etc.
- We provide our own power and totally control the finish line. Nothing for you to do there. All we require is that there is room next to the finish line for the tent.
- We contact all coaches and ensure that they get their roster (if they are new to our system) and their meet line-ups in on time.
- We allow for limited race day roster/line-up changes by coaches.
- We email line-ups and, in the case of nordic events, running order to all coaches the morning of the event.
- We can post unofficial results as the race progresses, assuming things are functioning smoothly.
- We provide awards-ready results whenever you are ready and coaches will have printed copies of the results to take home with them.
- Viewable, printable, and downloadable results are posted online within an hour of returning home and remain there indefinitely.
- NOTE: We do NOTHING with the race course at all. Our focus is on ensuring that all participants who cross the finish line receive an accurate time and place.
About The Owner
Bob Schneider is a lifelong runner and educator. He currently teaches math at Edina (MN USA) High School. While he no longer runs due to a knee injury suffered coaching high school basketball, running has been one of the defining characteristics of his life.
Bob has developed a software business (online at http://www.h51software.net). They create educational software and services and, as a result of his background in running and inability to run currently, they manage fitness events in the upper midwest.
Bob has also developed an online service for managing high school, college/university, and club cross-country and track & field teams (called eTRaXC). eTRaXC is a comprehensive online coach-directed running team manager.
About Our Timing System
VIRA uses "No Worries" Timing from Summit Systems, Inc. It is not chip technology but is designed for, and successfully used on, running, nordic skiing, mountain bike, and multi events, easily handling upwards of 500 participants or more, depending on factors like race distance.
The system relegates the use of manual bib and time entry to back-up status as all data is entered into the results-processing software electronically. Select timing and the ability to automate wave and interval starts as well as exchanges from one mode to another in multi-events are handled cleanly and efficiently.
